Dre & Pepper; 2 Doctors You Can Trust

Dr. Dre’s forthcoming album Detox has been delayed so long and is so eagerly anticipated, it’s starting to earn comparisons to another long-in-the-making project: Guns n’ Roses’ Chinese Democracy. Now the two albums are linked by an unlikely third party, Dr. Pepper. The soda company that famously egged on Axl Rose by offering a free can to everyone in America should Rose’s LP surface in 2008 is now partnering with Dre to offer a sneak peek of Detox in a commercial that will begin airing June 1st, Billboard reports. Scientific tests prove when you drink Dr. Pepper slow, the 23 flavors taste even better. For me, slow always produces a hit, Dre says in his version of the Take Me, I’m A Doctor ad campaign, which previously featured Kiss’ Dr. Love, Gene Simmons.

In the commercial, after taking over the DJ stand, Dre and his can of Dr. Pepper preview a few bars of what is reportedly a song bound for Dre’s Detox, the follow-up to his 1999 album 2001. As Nah Right points out, the beat featured in the ad is from the track Shit Popped Off, a previously leaked rumored Detox track and one of the supposed products of Dre’s recent collaboration with T.I.

So will Detox come with the promise of free Dr. Pepper? So far the company hasn’t announced plans to repeat their previous stunt probably because the last one didn’t go so well but at least we know now Detox is on the way with a late-2009 release date penciled in and a roster of guests that’s expected to include T.I., Eminem, 50 Cent, Nas and Lil Wayne. This week Dre collaborator Dawaun Parker told us, Every year that anticipation [for Detox] builds. At this point, people aren’t even sure what they want it to sound like. They want to hear some kind of frequency that doesn’t exist.

The Fab Four Reveal "Rock Band" Details

The surviving members of The Beatles unveiled new details about their upcoming "Rock Band" videogame at the E3 videogame conference in Los Angeles.

Joined by Yoko Ono Lennon and Olivia Harrison, Paul McCartney and Ringo Starr disclosed 10 of the 45 songs expected in "The Beatles: Rock Band" when it comes out Sept. 9.

The tracks are "I Saw Her Standing There," "I Want To Hold Your Hand," "I Feel Fine," "Taxman," "Day Tripper," "Back In The USSR," "I Am The Walrus," "Octopus's Garden," "Here Comes The Sun" and "Get Back."

Additionally, they said the entire "Abbey Road" album will be available for purchase and download, as will other tracks from the band's catalog, after the game's release, and "All You Need Is Love" will be released exclusively for Xbox 360 users as a downloadable song the day the game hits retail shelves. The proceeds of the single will be donated to Doctors Without Boarders.

Different venues played by the Beatles will be recreated for the game, including the Cavern Club in Liverpool (where they got their start), the Ed Sullivan Show, Shea Stadium and the Budokan in Japan.

The game will take fans into the studio experience after the band stopped touring through "artistic visual expressions known as Dreamscapes, intended to transport players to the imaginative environments that capture the essence of The Beatles' genre-busting musical and fashion transformations during their later years," according to the release.

From a gameplay perspective, the release will break from existing music-based games that allow for only one singer, and add three-part vocal harmonies. Content will also include previously unreleased recordings of the bandmates talking between takes during studio sessions recorded at Abbey Road.

A demo version of the game is available for attendees of the E3 conference to play.

Pearl Jam Team Up With Retail Giant Target

The Pulse of Radio reports that PEARL JAM filmed a commercial for retail superstore Target last Thursday (May 28) at the Showbox Theater in Seattle, according to Billboard.com. News of the shoot broke at AntiQuiet.com over the weekend, where it was reported that 300 paid extras were enlisted in Seattle for a secret shoot involving an unnamed act. The act was eventually revealed to be PEARL JAM, who performed a new song called "The Fixer" and two others while director Cameron Crowe rolled cameras.

News of the shoot led to speculation that PEARL JAM would release its next record, tentatively titled "Backspacer" and due out this fall, exclusively through Target. Manager Kelly Curtis confirmed to Billboard.com that pearl jam would issue its new effort without a major label and through a "consortium of partners" that did in fact include Target.

Curtis added that in addition to Target serving as the band's "big box" retail partner, the group will work with an online retailer, a mobile partner, a gaming company and some sort of network of independent stores.

As for the selection of Target, Curtis said, "Target ended up allowing us to have other partners. We'll be able to take care of all levels of the PEARL JAM fan . . . Target was cool enough to realize that little independent record stores are not their competition."

Reacting to criticism that PEARL JAM's relationship with a corporate partner like Target amounts to a "sell-out," Curtis responded, "I make decisions around the band's business that are consistent with their overall philosophy . . . We have the freedom to pick our partners and more control than we've ever had before. We're excited to choose who we're in business with."

Curtis said that some of the footage shot at the Seattle show could also be used in a project Crowe is working on to commemorate PEARL JAM's 20th anniversary.

Crowe, the director of movies such as "Jerry Maguire" and "Almost Famous", is old friends with PEARL JAM and used them in his 1992 movie "Singles".

PEARL JAM performed on Monday night (June 1) as part of the debut of "The Tonight Show With Conan O'Brien", and at press time the band had been tentatively planning to perform new songs, including possibly "The Fixer".

Eminem + Bruno = Ass To Face @ MTV Movie Awards

Eminem had a close encounter with Bruno, star of comedian Sacha Baron Cohen's next film of the same name, during last night's MTV Movie Awards at the Gibson Ampitheater in Universal City, Hollywood.

Dressed as a winged white dove, an in-character Baron Cohen was suspended from the venue’s ceiling during the ceremony, but was 'accidentally' lowered down into the crowd after a supposed malfunction with his wire.

He landed in the crowd with Eminem's face trapped between his spread legs. Watch video footage of the incident by clicking below.

After the incident took place Eminem walked out of the venue, accompanied by his bodyguards, though fans and viewers alike are suggesting that the rapper was in on the joke.

Eminem was in attendance at the ceremony to perform the songs 'We Made You' and 'Crack A Bottle' from his new album, 'Relapse'.

The big winner of the night was teen vampire flick 'Twilight', which scored five awards, including Best Movie, Best Fight and Best Kiss.

Miley Cyrus won the award for best song from a movie for her rendition of 'The Climb' from 'Hannah Montana: The Movie'.

'Bruno' is released in UK cinemas on July 10.

Roadie Says Jimi Hendrix Was Murdered By His Manager

Jimi Hendrix's former roadie James 'Tappy' Wright has claimed that the late guitar legend was murdered by his manager Michael Jeffrey.

In his new book 'Rock Roadie', Wright claims that Jeffrey told him he plied Hendrix with pills and alcohol in order to kill him and claim on the guitarist's life insurance.

Hendrix died in September 1970. His body was found in a room at London's Samarkand Hotel booked by Monika Dannemann, whom Hendrix had known for a matter of days.

Jeffrey allegedly made the confession to Wright in 1971, two years before he was killed in a plane crash.

Writing of the admission, Wright says: "I can still hear that conversation, see the man I'd known for so much of my life, his face pale, hand clutching at his glass in sudden rage."

Jeffrey is quoted by Wright as telling him: "I was in London the night of Jimi's death and together with some old friends... we went round to Monika's hotel room, got a handful of pills and stuffed them into his mouth...then poured a few bottles of red wine deep into his windpipe."

The manager was allegedly worried that Hendrix was about to sack him. He had recently taken out a life insurance policy worth $2 million (£1.2 million), with Jeffrey as beneficiary, reports the Mail On Sunday.

"I had to do it. Jimi was worth much more to me dead than alive," Jeffrey is quoted as telling Wright. "That son of a bitch was going to leave me. If I lost him, I'd lose everything."

At the time of Hendrix's death, a coroner recorded an open verdict, stating that the cause was "barbiturate intoxication and inhalation of vomit".

63rd annual Tony Awards almost killed Bret Michaels

Rags-to-riches story "Billy Elliot" had a massive night at the 63rd annual Tony Awards on Sunday, winning 10 awards at the annual celebration of all things Broadway. But despite onstage cameos from Liza Minnelli and Dolly Parton and a top-notch hosting job by "How I Met Your Mother" star Neil Patrick Harris, on Monday morning most people were talking about how the show almost killed Bret Michaels.
From MtvNews
In honor of the nominations for "Rock of Ages," a theatrical celebration of '80s-era hair metal, Poison took the stage to perform their iconic "Nothin' But a Good Time" with the cast of the musical. Led by "Rock of Love" star/singer Bret Michaels, the band looked totally at home on the stage until Michaels missed his mark at the end of the song and was slammed in the head by a large piece of scenery that descended from the ceiling. People.com reported that the extent of Michaels' injury was not known at press time, but he did not, as reported, break his nose. A publicist for the singer told the site that while Michaels was still hoping to hit some afterparties, he was planning to hit an ER first and get some X-rays to make sure he was not seriously injured.

"D.O.A. (Death Of Auto-Tune)" Jay-Z vs Auto-Tune

"D.O.A. (Death Of Auto-Tune)" is set to feature on the forthcoming record, his first since 2007's "American Gangster".

The track samples "In The Space" by Janko Nilovic and Dave Sucky and sees the rapper turn his anger on modern technology.

It also takes direct aim at auto-tune, the voice altering technique popularised by Kanye West, who produced the album.

"The Blueprint 3" is due for release on September 11.
